Construction begins this week for the replacing of the lights within the school. They will be starting with the Home Ec and French rooms first to accommodate the vacating of classrooms for the retro fit. The order of classrooms and scheduling still needs to be finalized and once they begin working, they will better be able to gauge the time needed and help with scheduling. Grade 7 & 8 Classrooms will be required to take down everything from their walls (except things on bulletin boards) so the rooms can be painted following the light replacements.
Last week we said good bye to two staff members. Sue Clement, an interpreter, has moved out of province with her family and Mrs. Janie Kerr is now enjoying retirement. We would like to welcome Ms. Karrie Ginetz as our new grade 5 teacher taking over for Mrs. Kerr.
Students in grades 4-8 will soon be participating in the province wideTell Them From Me survey. This survey is open to students between October 13th and November 19th. The data revealed from this survey helps to make important school and division based learning and environmental decisions which benefit students moving forward.

It's that time of year again! Magazine sales kick off today. Students will be coming home with magazine sale packages after school. All students are asked to try to sell at least two. All proceeds, raised by students through magazine sales, will be going towards a new curtain for our stage and new gym equipment. My favorite part of this years sale is that there is a QR code that students can email, or post online to direct people to purchase magazines from Henry Janzen School. Students learned all about this option, as well as how to collect money, safe canvassing and the many prizes available to them and their peers for each magazine sale they make at our assembly this morning. It was a great kick off and students are eager to get going! Please help your child to locate interested family and friends who want to support our school. Thanks for helping us make Henry Janzen School even more awesome.
Thank you to all the families who came out to our Open House this past Wednesday. We had a great turnout and received a lot of positive feedback. Also, a special thank you to all the volunteers who helped to put together the BBQ. Without your help, teachers would not have had the flexibility to meet with students and parents. Your time and contributions are greatly appreciated.
Hopefully you all received the email regarding our annual QSP Magazine Sale. There will be a kick off assembly for students on Thursday September 16th. Start rounding up family and friends who might be interested in supporting our magazine drive.

As another year comes to an end it is time to bid farewell to some committed individuals who have contributed to our school in so many ways over the years. Mrs. Ulriksen, Mrs. Fazakas, Mrs. Enion, Mme. Posehn, Ms. Reavley, and Ms. Classen, will all be leaving this year and we wish them all the best in their new schools. This year also marks the retirement of Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Winchester, Mrs. Dressler and Mr. Campbell at the end of this month, followed closely my Mrs. Kerr early in the fall. Their careers have truly impacted so many lives and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with them and for all they have done for the children of Regina Public.
In the 2015–2016 school year we will be extending the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program within the school and will be introducing a new Communication Pre-School. We are also looking forward to the technology refresh and the arrival of Chrome Books for our students.
